What a morning for taking some great images. We headed out to the Chugach State Park to photograph Dall Sheep. We lucked out and this Ram came down from the top of the mountain to hang out near our shooting location. We’re headed out again in a bit so stay tuned for more…

Well, yesterday was a great start to Base Camp Alaska. We took the students out to the AWCC to get some practice in on wildlife that they were going to see so they would know what settings and lenses they would need to get "the shot." Practicing before you go out to photograph a subject is vital. It will give you information that you may have not had, and it will help improve your chances of capturing great images. So if you you’re going to see Inland Grizzlys then head to a place where they have some and experiment. Try different Apertures, Focal lengths, etc, and take notes on what you see. It will pay off in the end.

Greetings from AK! Well, it was nice to get out and shoot today with Moose and Sharon. As always with Moose and I we went hunting for an old town to photograph. I know we’re supposed to photograph wildlife at Base Camp, but we’re doing that too. We went up to independence Mine, an old mine that was started back in the early 1900′s. The road was closed so we had to walk about a mile or so up hill to get the town. Along the way the river was rolling by and I thought, WOW, someone found a little bit of gold in these waters and decided to chase it to the source. Problem was the source was on top of peak, and I mean the very top (6000+ ft). This old mine town was completely self contained so it had everything. It was a very neat place to shoot.

This was one of the entrances to the bunk houses at the mine. It housed 50+ people and was 3 stories tall. Down side it cost these guys $10 just to have a movie brought up to them, and that was 70+ years ago.

This was a great shot of the entrance to the engineers office. I finished it an old time look.
